What makes it different

Five things
we do differently.

How we protect your privacy
Your phone should not spy on you. Lumé is our custom operating system. It keeps your data on your device by default. You get clear permissions and less background tracking so your private life stays private.
Your phone should grow with you
Most phones are built to be replaced. We are building Cioré phones so they can grow with you. Key parts are planned to be held together with screws instead of glue so that worn or damaged parts can be replaced without buying a whole new device.
Our phones charge differently
Nyro is our energy system. Your phone will charge like any other when you plug it in. On top of that, Nyro is being designed to work with the hardware and Lumé so the device can slowly pull extra power from three sources. Sunlight when you are near a window or outside. Ambient light from everyday indoor lighting. Biothermic touch from the warmth of your hand or pocket. These sources are not a replacement for regular charging but they help support the battery over time.
Built with better materials in mind
We care about where our parts come from. Our team selects materials that are safe for the earth and the people who mine them. Our team is working to use options that reduce toxic components, support repair, and cut down on waste. We focus on suppliers and processes that avoid child labor, unsafe working conditions, and harmful extraction practices so the phone can do its job without ignoring the cost to people or the planet. The phone's components are made of recyclable materials, plant based fibers and even healthier battery alternatives, even the circuit is ethical.
Shaped with community input
We want this phone to reflect the people who use it. We listen to feedback, invite honest questions, and share progress so you can see how your ideas influence what we build next. As Cioré grows, our aim is to create work and opportunity for the communities that stand behind us.

Why are you building a different kind of phone in the first place?
Because the way phones are built today quietly asks us to trade away our privacy, our money, and our planet's health. We believe that's not normal and not inevitable. You deserve a device that works for you, not against you, and we're here specifically to prove that is possible.
Is my current phone really tracking me that much?
Modern phones and apps routinely reach for your location, contacts, camera, microphone, and network activity in the background. That's why operating systems now ship entire privacy report features just so you can see what's happening. You're not "paranoid" for feeling watched; you're picking up on something real, and our whole mission is to give you a phone that respects that instinct instead of exploiting it.
Is this really real or just an idea?
We are past the idea stage. We have spent months researching, mapping out the device, and lining up vetted suppliers. Our parts list, materials, and build plan are in place, and we are now gearing up for the prototype phase with partners ready to move as soon as funding clears.
What makes your phone different from a "privacy mode" on my current phone?
Most privacy modes live on top of systems that were never designed to be private; they're a patch, not a foundation. We're rebuilding from the operating system up so that the default behavior is minimal data collection, transparent controls, and clear reporting you can understand at a glance. You shouldn't have to be a security expert to be safe, and we're doing the hard work underneath so everyday people get the benefit.
Can a more ethical device really last longer?
Yes. Short lifespans are mostly a design choice: sealed parts, fragile materials, and business models that depend on upgrades. We're designing for repairability, durability, and modularity from day one so that your phone can live much longer than a typical upgrade cycle. You deserve a device that grows with you instead of expiring on schedule, and we're building exactly for that.
Tell me about Lumé. How will it protect my privacy?
An operating system is the rulebook and traffic controller for your phone. It decides what apps can do, what they can see, and how they talk to each other. At first we planned to build our own operating system completely from scratch, but that is a multi year path. Because we want this phone in people's hands by winter, we are starting with a hardened version of the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) and layering our own privacy rules on top, while we keep building toward our own full stack over time.
What does "hardened AOSP" mean in simple terms?
It means we use the open, non tracking base of Android, then tighten it. We turn off weak defaults, add stronger protections, and keep apps in stricter spaces so they cannot quietly reach into the rest of your phone.
Will I have to sacrifice convenience or modern features?
Our goal is not to drag you backwards; it's to move you forward without the hidden trade offs. You should still be able to message, work, create, and connect just with more control, better visibility, and fewer dark corners. Convenience and ethics can coexist, and we're designing the experience so you don't have to choose between them.
Is the phone fully solar powered?
No. It is solar assisted. You still have a regular battery and a normal charging port, but the phone also gathers small amounts of energy from indoor light, sunlight, and a bit of warmth from your hand to support the battery between charges.
What does solar assistance actually change day to day?
It will not replace charging, but it will help slow down the battery drop. While your phone sits on your desk or travels with you outside, it quietly tops itself up, which can mean fewer deep drains and more time between full charges.
How does this help people who use their personal phone for work?
When your personal phone becomes your work device, it also becomes a gateway into company data, client conversations, and sensitive files. That's a huge burden to put on a consumer product. We're building a device that treats that reality seriously, making it easier for you and your employer to keep work data safe without turning your phone into a surveillance tool. You shouldn't have to risk your job or your privacy just to do your job.
Is this only for tech professionals?
It's for anyone who has ever felt a little uncomfortable about how much their phone knows, even if they don't have the vocabulary for it. You don't need to know what "end to end encryption" or "OS level sandboxing" means to feel that something is off. We translate those protections into a calmer, clearer experience so people like you can simply live your life with more trust and less noise.
How will I know which parts and materials are in my phone?
Each phone will show a clear materials list. From the device you will be able to see what your phone is made of, which parts are replaceable, and how to order specific pieces if something wears out or breaks.
If I'm interested, what role do I play in making this real?
Your interest is not just a nice to have; it's the reason this exists. By joining the waitlist, sharing feedback, or partnering with us, you're helping prove that there is demand for devices that are more private, repairable, and honest. You deserve better than "just how it is," and every person who leans in with us helps turn that belief into a phone you can actually hold.
How will I know where my money goes once you start building?
As soon as prototype spending begins, we will publish a simple public log on our site that shows where funds go by category, so you can see the connection between your support and the hardware we are building.
